Cut the size/rule you think fits the sign you're correcting. Place it where it belongs and take two pictures, a close-up (so we can read the rule that applies), and a final one (wide shot) with the correction made.
Please, be respectful of the owners who don't want their signs corrected and/or ask for permission when (and if) necessary.
